OSZO 44 – THE CHROMATIC CIRCLE OF JOHANNES ITTEN – Colored glass roof based on Johannes Itten’s color circle at the energy center of the former Terlinden textile dyeing plant / Zurich – Küsnacht (CH) / 2019. The energy center of the former Terlinden textile dyeing plant consists of an ensemble of buildings whose transparent and dynamic architecture is enhanced by a 100 m2 glass roof above the main entrance. With THE CHROMATIC CIRCLE OF JOHANNES ITTEN, Ritchie Riediger has added a color concept to the previously transparent glass roof. To this end, the artist detaches the components from Johannes Itten’s typology of colors and rearranges them. Without directly adopting a fixed rule, they add up interrupted by transparent gray ‘hinge panes’. As the sun moves, colored light falls on the side façade, the main entrance and the passing street. Riediger’s work combines art and architecture as well as past and present in an equally sensual and logical way. It skilfully spans an arc from the Bauhaus to Johannes Itten’s later place of work in Zurich (Dr. Meinhard Michael, art historian, Leipzig June 2019). Flachglas Wikon AG was allowed to supply vetroSafe Color in various colors for the colored glass roof.
